The American Institute for Cancer Research and The Monday Campaigns Collaborate to Bring Healthy Monday Messaging to Cancer Prevention

Walk More and Sit Less. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity each day to reduce cancer risk.

In honor of National Cancer Prevention Month, The American Institute for Cancer Research has collaborated with The Monday Campaigns to incorporate Healthy Monday messaging into participants’ weekly routine.

Starting the week with a renewed commitment to healthy behaviors is an important step to reaching or maintaining personal wellness goals, and many times, the only thing necessary to stay on track is a little Monday reminder. In a recent national survey, respondents described being more likely to start a healthy behavior on Monday versus any other day of the week.

Working together the two teams have designed and compiled a series of healthy practices into a Healthy Monday for Cancer Prevention Toolkit to help people learn about simple ways to reduce their cancer risk through exercise and healthy eating. These practices are being featured as part of AICR’s Healthy10 Challenge, but they can also be used any time of year to support people of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels in improving their overall health and wellbeing.

Available now, the toolkit will help people learn about simple lifestyle changes to help reduce their cancer risk. Every Monday, participants will kick off the week with a recommended healthy activity to proactively work toward cancer prevention. For example, week one challenges users to “strive for a healthier plate,” by promoting easy swaps to eat more plant foods and less meat, while week two nudges them to “get up and get going,” by engaging in at least 30 minutes of movement.

Healthy Monday programming is based on research developed with colleagues at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
